Sta. Rita Hills, Santa Barbara County
Find Near YouLloyd by Robert Lloyd Pinot Noir is a bold yet elegant expression of Sta. Rita Hills, Santa Barbara County. A cool vintage and late harvest gave the fruit extended hang time, resulting in a Pinot Noir with remarkable depth, freshness, and aromatic precision. Winemaker Rob Lloyd uses submerged cap fermentation for richness and vibrant aromatics, followed by French oak aging for layered complexity. The result is a premium Pinot Noir - small in production, big in personality, and a true showcase of Sta. Rita Hills terroir.
The 2023 Lloyd Pinot Noir from Sta. Rita Hills, Santa Barbara County, pours a deep ruby hue with lifted aromas of black cherry, ripe raspberry, and a hint of baking spice. On the palate, layers of red and black berries unfold alongside notes of vanilla, cocoa, and subtle earthiness. A velvety texture and refined tannins are balanced by vibrant acidity, bringing freshness and energy to the wine. The finish is long and elegant, leaving lingering traces of fruit and delicate oak spice.
A versatile red wine, this Pinot Noir pairs beautifully with roasted duck, grilled salmon, herb-crusted lamb, or mushroom risotto. Its bold yet balanced profile also complements seared tuna, pork tenderloin, and rich cheeses like creamy brie, camembert, and smoked gouda - making it a go-to choice for gatherings and gourmet meals.
Sourced from two acclaimed Sta. Rita Hills vineyards - La Viña and Rio Vista - this Pinot Noir reflects the appellation’s cool-climate character. La Viña, on the western edge, contributes structure, spice, and earthy depth from its fog-cooled slopes. Rio Vista, to the east, brings ripe cherry, plum, and floral lift from a slightly warmer microclimate. Together, they create a small-production Pinot Noir that is plush, layered, and distinctly Sta. Rita Hills.
Crafted from 100% Pinot Noir, the 2023 vintage began with submerged cap fermentation in stainless steel to extract deep color and concentrated flavor while preserving fresh aromatics. The wine aged for 10 months in French oak barrels, adding subtle spice and complexity, followed by 12 months of bottle aging for balance and elegance.
The 2023 harvest was unusually late - La Viña came in on October 10 and Rio Vista on October 16 - delivering exceptional concentration and aromatic lift. Bottled on July 15, 2024, this is a limited release of just 1,213 cases.
